Dan Fillius

Dan Fillius serves as the Horticulture Field Specialist in Commercial Vegetables and Specialty Crops with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. He will be the keynote speaker at the 2026 Siouxland Garden Symposium, where he'll present on “Using AI in the Garden” and “Growing Cut Flowers in Iowa.”

In his role with ISU Extension, Filius provides research-based guidance to commercial growers, sharing innovative production strategies and insights on emerging vegetable cultivars. A former farmer himself, he draws on years of hands-on experience to help producers across Iowa enhance their success and sustainability.

Filius also co-hosts the podcast, What in the Weather?, exploring the intersection of weather, agriculture, and horticulture with Iowa's State Climatologist Justin Glisan and Extension Ag Climatologist Madelnn Wuestenber. Before joining ISU Extension, he managed 140 acres of vegetables at Featherstone Farm in southeastern Minnesota—an experience that continues to shape his practical, grower-focused approach today.
